The Sac and Osage River Confluence is a roadside park in St. Clari County, Missouri, not far from Osceola.
From Osceola, travel south on Highway 82.
We first saw this Missouri-shaped stone with writing.
It reads with some Civil War history where 12,000 men camped here. You can listen to my reading and see it better in the above video. Pause the video to read it.
The rivers meet and flow together to the right.
The Osage River is the wide one on the right and the Sac River is coming from the left. The rivers are actually the only rivers in Missouri flowing North! I learned that later when I saw a diorama at the Harry S Truman Dam and Visitors Center, so you can watch that video on my website page. I learned that this whole system of man-made dams and lakes is to keep the Lake of the Ozarks from flooding.
Actually, the Osage River does flows generally in a northeasterly direction, joining the Missouri River near Jefferson City, Missouri. The river's course includes the Harry S. Truman Reservoir and the Lake of the Ozarks.
I walked to the other parking area while hubby drove the truck down to it. There is a this old 1930's stone structure, with a wall, bridge, and marker.
This place is 827 feet above sea level. There is also an arrow pointing toward the north, which goes the same direction as the river is flowing.
The sign says Sac-Osage Roadside Park.
It is a beautiful view.
At this parking area is a different sign which tells a story about the first settlers, Jacob and Henry Coonce, who camped down below, only to be awakened by the shouts of Indian dancers around a bonfire above where the sign is located.
Another angle for better reading of the sign.
