Magic Tipi Retreat, Park Hills, Missouri

We had a great time at the Magic Tipi Retreat in Park Hills, St. Francois County, Missouri, on June 24, 2018. Silly me spells in "TeePee." Benka & Keith are the hosts, but we only met Keith. I am putting this online in 2022 and still have fond memories of our trip. You can reserve the tipi on AirBNB.

This is not what you see when you first walk up to camp, but rather when you walk around the back side. I had to take two photos and merge them together to get this shot because there was no way to back up far enough. I rather like this shot.

After the long drive, we must have visited the bathroom first as it is first in our photos. It was a shared bathroom near the other rent-able room and the main house before you start down the trail. It had some unique features.

It was made out of barn metal.

We enjoyed visiting among the raised vegetable garden beds. They were so tall it made gardening easy.

Here is another view. I remember that there were two sides like this and you cold walk down in the middle between them, like a U-shape.

When you get to the end of the trail, this is what you first see. Not too exciting at first.

When you walk around back you see the picnic table and some boxes that have some supplies in them.

Just over the railing from the picnic table is the hammock.

Here is my first peak inside before we walked inside.

There were two beds inside.

The left us a bottle of wine and some treats.

Everywhere we went inside were things to open and explore, although it does not seem as such at first. We had a great time finding all the little fun things.

There are trails that anyone in any of the facilities can walk on, so we took our bottle of wine and a picnic basket and some flowers down the trail.

Another view along the trail.

There is a spot along the trail where an old railroad used to travel which creates an opening in the line of the trees. There was a table and we set up a picnic there in the quiet of the forest. I do remember that there was a webcam on a tree so it did not feel all that private.

The trail makes a loop and we continued on down the trail.

We came to an area with a big swing out in the middle of nowhere. How fun is that!

There are so many little things to find along the way.

There was even a book exchange in the middle of the trail!

This is the building that is shared near the main house.

You can also choose to have a meal delivered here. There are extra packages you can purchase to treat yourself.

This is the trail we first took down to the tipi, now taking it again as we have made the loop on our hike.

There is a wind chime with a pulley that acts as a bell. When the owner visits you to deliver something you have ordered, he rings the bell to alert you of his or her presence.

I had never experienced a smudge stick before and there was one in the tent. I really liked it and have used one in my own home ever since. I love the smell of it burning.

We could not afford a lot of extras, but we did order a bread and spread and had it delivered. It came in this cloth pouch and it felt like a real treat!

As the day continues you begin lighting the things to prepare for darkness. We lit the fire inside the tipi.

This is the view off to the side from where the fire pit area is located. As I said, there are little things to find everywhere. See the lamp?

Wood was provided in a nearby lot and it was a good kind that smelled great!

Again another merged photo but this time with the lights on at dusk.

There were two lanterns inside to light as well. The lighting all around was truly magical as the name implies.

A nighttime hammock time is great too.
