Alley Spring & Mill National Park 2018 & 2021

Alley Springs, October 28 and 29, 2018

In the above video, I went to Alley Springs in Eminence three times: at 2 in the afternoon, at 8 in the morning, and at 11 in the morning, on October 27 and 28, 2018.

Alley Springs, March 28, 2021

On my way home from dropping my son off for active duty employment on March 28, 2021, I could not resist stopping by one of my favorite places on this earth, Alley Springs. I took a little bit of video for you to watch.

See the companion page to this one: Alley Spring & Mill National Park 2012 & 2013

These photos from my 2018 photo shoot at Alley Springs are some of my favorite. I spent a lot of time just relaxing. It was a goal of mine. A lot can be learned about photographing the same place at different times of the day. I tried to stand at the exact same spot each time to get the exact same shot. We arrived at a cabin October 28, so my first visit was not until later afternoon on the first day.

October 28, 2018, at 2:00 p.m.

We started our relaxing time with a picnic lunch by the water! Really, I think people rush through this beautiful place and do not spend enough time enjoying it, including me! So this time I spent a long time here and there are many photos I am sharing because it is amazing how you can move just a little bit and the scene will be different. Or you can just stand in the same place for a while and snap another shot and the moving sun will change the colors. I really like this collection of photos and am only showing you a small fraction, but it is a lot of photos. I hope you take the time to notice the little differences.

It is also Autumn and the colors are just beginning to peak so I also focused on getting as many of the colors in the photos as I could. Note the harsh afternoon sun on the building coming from the west as it begins to set.

The lowering afternoon sun really sets off the colors of this pool of water.

This is the location where I tried to stand at the same spot each time to see how the same photo looks different at different times of the day. Look at how blue the water with the angle of the sun in this photo!

October 29, 2018, at 8:00 a.m.

In the early morning there is fog which makes for a whole different look to the photos. In addition, the sun rising in the east is behind the hill in this photo. I had to wait until it rose enough to begin casting light. You can see it is an bent curve shape on the hill as it gets high enough to be over the hill.

The photos of the leaves in the water the day before in the afternoon were fabulous, but in the morning not so much.

This is the photo taken in the same spot and the same distance as my goal to compare them. The reflection shows up on the water, there is fog, and you can see the building much better with the morning light hitting this side of the building.

I love this shot!

Getting down low so the reeds are the in photo sure changes the view.

This is the same view as above also and can be compared.

October 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.

At 11 a.m. the sun is almost straight up in the sky. They say this is the worst time of day to take photos because of the harshness of the sun. But is it always the rule?

This is the one I used as a comparison to the other two at different times of the day.

I absolutely love the reflections!

I had my hubby throw up some leaves in the air as I laid on my back snapping photos as they fell. That is a fun afternoon activity.

In only took a few photos on my quick trip on March 28, 2021, to Alley Springs. It amazes me how every time I visit here my photos are of the same things and yet look so different. I find different composures and the seasons, the time of day, the amount of water, and so many other factors effect the colors and the results. Here there are no leaves on the trees so the sun reaches the waters and they seem to have a much different color.
